Many roads in Germany are in poor condition. Especially after cold winters, road damage occurs in the form of potholes and cracks.
There is no standardised regular monitoring of road conditions for municipal roads, only a very cost-intensive procedure using special vehicles. There are also districts that do not have road condition maps available.
Up-to-date road condition maps would be important and helpful for local authorities, haulage companies and vehicle manufacturers. In this project, a procedure is to be developed with which roads can be assessed and classified in terms of their road surface.
The acceleration behaviour is to be used to record relevant road sections. If the detected movement patterns indicate that there is damage, the type of road damage is determined and documented using image recognition.
In addition, 3D data is used for verification.
